What is the IELTS exam?

IELTS (the International English Language Testing System) is the world's most popular method of assessing candidates' language abilities. IELTS results are used by universities to accept international students and by countries and government agencies to issue either work or temporary residence permit.

Who is it for?

IELTS is for everyone who's planning to move in another country where English is an official language or for people who would like to continue their studies abroad and get a Bachelor's or Master's degree, PhD etc.

What is the IELTS exam like?

There are 2 versions of the test: General and Academic. Listening and speaking sections are identical.

The test contains 4 sections:

1. Listening - 4 sections, 40 questions (about 30 minutes)

2. Reading - 3 sections, 40 questions (1 hour)

3. Writing - 2 pieces, (1 hour)

4. Speaking - 3 parts, (15 minutes)

How can I take the test?

There are two types of the exam:

1. Paper-based IELTS - Candidates do the Listening, Reading and Writing parts with question papers and transfer their answers to the answer sheet.

2. Computer-based IELTS - Candidates do the Listening, Reading and Writing parts with a computer and submit their answers online.

Speaking test on both occasions are conducted face-to-face with an IELTS examiner.
